On April 30, 1598, Spanish Explorer Juan de Oñate and his expedition celebrated the “First Thanksgiving” on the El Paso Mission Trail. Each year the city of San Elizario celebrates the First Thanksgiving in the Southwest with a weekend celebration featuring a re-enactment, live music, street food and regional exhibits/art.
